PRESS RELEASE: For Immediate Release
Washington, DC — 4 September 2006. “On the fifth anniversary of 9/11 and with all the upset in the world, the exhibition CrossCulture: The Independent Artists Forum is the perfect antidote.” CrossCulture opens with a reception at the Anne C. Fisher Gallery on 15 September, 6pm–8pm. The exhibition will continue through 14 October.
The Independent Artists Forum comprises Ethel Bustamante (Colombia), Wendy Plotkin-Mates (United States), Haydeh Rastin (Iran), Marjolein van Milligen (Netherlands/Indonesia) and Marion van Ruiten (Germany). Among their goals is to bring artists together from various cultures for mutual support, crosscultural understanding and to celebrate artistic diversity.
Ethel Bustamante, in her abstract realistic paintings, emphasizes the meanings of human existence in spirit and natural essence. She creates pieces that are poetic, sensual, and vivid in color, movement and form.

Held on March 9 at the Capitol Hill Club in Washington, D.C., the elegant Presidential Dining Room was filled to capacity with 140 participants. Paintings by Colombian artist Ethel Bustamante punctuated the sunlight-filled room with explosive color, capturing the organic qualities of femininity and motherhood. Networking abounded as hearts opened and tears flowed as women contemplated the essential role of women in creating peace.
