Artist Statement:
My work is colour and energy.
Almost everything ends up
vibrant and full of joy. I do
not paint reality. I imagine
impossible things or invent
compositions which come from
the unconscious mind or other
dimensions which I myself do
not know where they come from.

Biggest Artistic Inspiration Two artists influenced my work mostly during my artistic development: Rufino Tamayo and Paul Klee, the respectively Mexican and Swiss-German painters.
Rufino for his colours and textures treatment, Klee for his theories on creativity.
They together molded my way of working and representing my ideas.
However, having been living and studying fine art in England, it is said that my work somehow incorporates connotations of the contemporary European art.

Why Did You Become An Artist I become an artist to please myself, satisfy or develop my creativity.
I wanted to represent or to draw atention to the social economic and political situation of Brazil, or to contribute to the awareness of the injustices in the country.
I regret to say that it was impossible for me to represent misery and suffering, my paintings became full of colours and life. What came out from my unconscious mind was too lively and vibrant. I can say that my work is colour and energy!
Almost everything ends up full of joy and exhuberancy.
All my life I was involved with drawing and painting and later on I decided to go to the university to understand what it was right or wrong. Eventually I found out that there is no such a thing, right or wrong. I myself feel a sense of achievement when I manage to express the emotions of the moment with the medium of my choice. The painting itself dictate to me what to do reaching a visual harmony and spiritual balance.

Your Personal Biography Evelina is a Brazilian painter resident in England since 1972. She was a university lecturer in Brazil and came to England to complete her post graduate studies and has been living here ever since. She has a BSc. (Brazil) and a Ph.D. (London, U.K.) in Science and completed her B.A. (Hons) in Fine Art in 1993, England. She is remarried and has 4 grown up children.

She came from an artistic family and has been painting since her adolescent years. In England she took up painting again and has been working in art for more than 20 years.
Her work (over 600 paintings and 700 drawings) has been influenced by her South American upbringing which is reflected by the presence of tropical connotations in bright dominant colours in many or her paintings in a semi abstract expressionist manner.

Evelina frequently exhibits her work in London and Southern England and has won five prizes for best abstract painting. Her work is in private collections in many countries, including Brazil, Portugal, Spain, Netherland, Greece, United States, Canada and Japan. She also enjoys working in large scale and recently has been commissioned to design and produce murals. Her gallery at her residence/studio welcome visitors by appointments and constantly exhibits approximately 46 of her favourite works on the walls.
She teaches painting techniques and development of creativity.
