Artist Statement:
I've painted most of my life,
beginning in 1969. My
training in the arts began as
early as 4 years old, when,
while visiting my artist
grandfather, I was allowed to
look at the many paintings in
the art books he had brought
home for a few days. In later
years, I began to paint out of
necessity... for those who
understand this, it might be
understood also that, in so
doing, I was also compelled to
reach deep within myself for
the truth of the art which I
then began to paint.

After nearly thirty five years
of painting, to this date, I
am just beginning to paint for
pleasure. So, as my creative
struggles may have seemingly
passed for the moment as I
reflect in landscapes, I hope
too that my art brings others
the serenity and the
affirmation of new hopes and
fulfilled promises. There
remains my hope then, that
afterall, I have conveyed to
others the truth of a deeper
self, or Chen yen, that I
remain to contemplate in quiet
moments.

homesite at

Art is my life! I hope you
enjoy my work.

Biggest Artistic Inspiration My grandfather was my biggest artistic inspiration. An intellectual, he was also a painter whose measure of talent was irrelevant, if considered from the perspective that all art is valid. His artistic individuality came from his deep belief that art is a dynamic creative process and can therefore never be complete, as in saying a work of art can never be finished. His favorite saying to me was always, "detail is the essence of reality." Very well read, he was a very interesting man on many different levels. His legacy to me - as inspiration - was his life.

Why Did You Become An Artist I became an artist because I had no choice; it was either paint or go mad. Now, after having painted for nearly forty years, I find that I have not lost my passion for that which has been the only true - and constant - love in my life. As only one of the nine daughters of Zeus and Mnemosyne, Muse, therefore, has kept my interest; how could she not?

Your Personal Biography I've painted for most of my life, beginning in 1969. My training in the arts began as early as 4 years old, when, while visiting my artist grandfather, I was allowed to look at the many paintings in the art books he had brought home from the library for a few days.

In later years I began to paint out of necessity... for those who understand this, it might be understood also that, in so doing, I was also compelled to reach deep within myself for the truth of the art which I then began to paint. There remains my hope then, that after all... I have conveyed to others the truth of a deeper self, or Chen yen - that part of me, and all of us, in fact, that we must inevitably face alone.

No matter how accidental, tentative or purposeful as my brush may fall on canvas to mark it - just as your own might - it is merely my own expression and no more than that. To say less or more about my art, then, I leave to others; too little or too much may be said about it anyway.

Art is my life! I hope you enjoy my work.
