Artist Statement for Fauzin Mustafa

Art Works Statement
Fauzin’s paintings are a visualization based on an ‘outcome’ from observation,
interpretation and statements from painters on various issues. There is a tricot my concept
identified as icon-index-symbol that had a major involvement on the works; the works
invite the public to enter a semiotic debate room regarding the various social current
issues happening in Malaysia. However, as an artist still feel that I need to be more attach
to viewer and I need to be more integrated and intertwined with the psychological and
cultural baggage of the viewer.
My paintings; speaks of global warming. The usage of warm colors and leaves collage denotes exactly that. The combination of warm softer shades communicates the comfortable complacency of man. The symbolic ‘sofa’ taking centre stage is human and his blatant disregard for the environment. Red sofa reminds of the danger in continued disregard! Vertical and horizontal collage grid adds impact to the entrenched beginnings, in tandem to nature and its supremacy… a remarkable piece capturing the spirit of the artist both in art and philosophy.
The art works also reminded us about the semiotic debate of various issues involving fine arts base on the semiotic approach which had been proposed by Charles Sander Pierce ( 1839- 1914) that finally had developed to become one of the critical theories in the field of fine arts. Through and in-depth observation and understanding towards aesthetical green leaves and living process. Fauzin proposed a statement regarding the horizontal and vertical relationship in the context of nature, people and “Al-Khalik” (God).
