Artist Statement for Paul Edelstein
Paul Edelstein is one of the Midsouth United States most well-known artists.
Edelstein's artwork is conceptually driven by the figurative relationships that occur in abstraction. Deeply intrigued by the associations and connections of personalities casually coming and going, Edelstein focuses on the transient nature of places and the interactions of characters in his rich compositions.
Edelstein is motivated to create through the enigmatic nature of people - the constructs of the group. Figures wait, anticipate, gather, and interact on Edelstein's canvases.
Nostalgic fashion details, such as rick-a-rack, argyle socks, and eccentric patterns, are regular features of his expressive oeuvre.
Like a director, Edelstein illustrates the intriguing meetings of his abstract cast. Paul paints in abstract figurative, impressionistic style, where color is his day long inspiration.
In his own words "a good sense of color is the foundation of a great painting".
