Artist Statement:
I have been making art ever since I can remember. I started out drawing and painting, moved on to an array of printmaking processes, then got stuck on first small scale and later large scale metalwork, finally concentrating on Bronze sculpture and moldmaking. Because bronzecasting can be very limiting at times (not everybody has had the luck of running their own foundry for 10 years like me and my bronze buddies)as far as facility and also color vibrancy goes, I was looking for something that included fabrication with fire, that was also very colorful and could be done in my tiny apartment, and so I got a book one day and taught myself how to make glass beads. I've been at it for quite a few years now with no end in sight. My pieces have allowed me to participate in several Open Studios exhibitions and are owned by folks in Kyoto,Holland, Austria, Germany, France, Spain, Austin TX, New Orleans etc. They are all over the world....

| Biggest Artistic Inspiration |
My teacher and mentor Holt Murray, who taught me how to cast bronze and make molds, use my time wisely and to value integrity above all. And my dad, who always yelled at me for not signing my artwork when I was about 6 years old. |

| Your Personal Biography |
I am from Germany and but have been living in the US for 2
decades. I come from a metalworking and moldmaking as well
as printmaking background, having worked as a bronze caster
for almost 20 years. Due to the color and facility
limitations in working with bronze, I taught myself to
lampwork glass beads which I can make in my little apartment
in the crappy Tenderloin neighborhood. I enjoy the fidgety
nature of making the tiny bumps on my beads as it keeps my
OCD at bay. I support my glassmaking habit as well as my
addiction to tattoos with a day job as an engraver at a
small sign shop here in the city.I also paint and make mixed
media 2D Art.I really like living in San Francisco but have
to go back to Europe every once in a while so I don't go
crazy here. |
