Artist Statement for Ron Massey

|
I was born in Scotland and enjoyed the gift of a childhood and youth on Australia’s Pacific coast,where I also completed study at UNSW College of Fine Arts. I’ve been living and painting the last two decades in Holland,… a land short on physical space but generous on space for creativity .
I’ve developed a figurative and an abstract body of work which could be described as metaphysical, symbolic and lyrical in content. The mood of a piece is always important and is often one of “constructive melancholy “.
Metaphysical art is usually timeless and the content once percieved always relevant because the questions of sentient existance never change so that the mythologies of man play themselves out again and again on the world’s stage-set.
Metaphysical art generally manifests as some version of a large question mark.
The true content of an existance is always more about what is not known than the little that is known ,or thought to be so. If it were otherwise there would be no wonder and hence no creativity, no art and no science .
