Artist Statement:
I have painted since I was a child. It has remained a constant. I remember being taken to the National Gallery in London when very young. It opened my eyes to the world of visual art. It is this moment that remains with me.
I spent many years in art colleges, working through figurative to the abstract. In my final years at the Royal College of Art, London, I changed from the abstract to a more traditional viewpoint, examining those techniques which have been revered for centuries, the pictures which have lasted. I don't believe in art as a fashion or trend, here today gone tomorrow. These days it seems anything goes that can be got away with. Most Contemporary Art to my mind is boggling inanity, always jostling for flattering reviews, and of Establishment acceptance and a consequent prestige which is never questioned.
I have always believed in Art that is timeless. My own work is involved with these values which have been with us since the beginning of civilisation, that are to do with what is the highest to which man may aspire, TRUTH.
