Artist Statement:
Nzuji De Magalhães a native of Angola, has received her BA in Fine Arts at the University of California in Irvine (UCI), and recently her Masters of Fine Arts from the University of Southern California (USC).
Nzuji’s work is based on Angolan traditional, cultural and contemporary art forms that have further developed here in the U.S. Her work not only emphasizes on the labor and its aesthetics, but also on the political and social issues of her native home and this country.
As a black female artist, her work brings forward issues that personally and socially affected her, such as concerns in regards to minority women and child labor, and minority street vendors here and overseas.
In closing her work brings forward a cultural and traditional presence that many minority artists have given and are still giving in this country and the world.
