Artist Statement:
Carol Herd Rodriguez has
always been driven to make
visual art. Her hands are
constantly busy make objects
and her psyche is actively
seeing the images in her
mind’s eye. Visual art is for
Herd Rodriguez the universal
communication of the numinous.
That which cannot be
expressed succinctly with
spoken or written language she
shares through her visual
imagery.
The use of Mono-Type printing
facilitates her naturalistic
vocabulary. She expresses her
interpretations of the local
landscape under the influence
of growing up in the lower
Hudson River Valley.
Seeing the forest and its
undergrowth in the hills along
the banks of the Hudson has
given way to her stylistic
representation of tree trunks.
The many empty boats along
the river’s edge and at the
watershed reservoirs has
fueled her fascination with
empty boats as vessels of hope
and as metaphors for the
people they would carry.
