Artist Statement:
I begin each piece developing it, by working first with images and symbols which are carefully researched. I like to know the symbolism, of each of the elements which I am incorporating into the painting. Images have many different meanings to each culture, so this can take weeks of research. I then combine the images with the thought of conveying a message to the viewer in a detailed drawing. Each one starts out like a mysterious open door, with a sign beckoning to "come in" and begin a journey within. That is when I find the trusting of intuition is most important.
When I begin to paint, I am constantly moving, changing and massaging each form, until the ripped paper,material, encaustic forms and paint coalesce into a unique form before me. The painting delineates where I am headed. Then some sort of rhythmic dialog forms, revealing a marvelous life to the painting, that I like to think of as "Spirit" at work. Lastly, comes the use of my own experience, when some restructuring takes place.Then it is the act of one's physical presence conducting my own energy into the painting.
