Artist Statement for Gale Gibbs

|
I am a storyteller and author. My visual stories are sometimes truthful, sometimes fictitious, sometimes a mix of both, but always introduce a mystery waiting to be solved. The compositions are developed one picture and one line of text at a time. Working this way is labor intensive but allows the storyline to evolve. The visual surface ultimately becomes a narrative that melds collage, photographs, digital images, drawing, and painting that invites the viewer to participate. The stories always seem to be complete at first glance, yet through the use of phantom images what is unseen and imagined by the viewer is just as important to the meaning and understanding of the work.
