Artist Statement for Craig Gallaway
Craig Gallaway has been an artist all his life. He studied art, art history, and spiritual formation at The University of Texas at Arlington (B.F.A.) Regent College (M.C.S.) and Emory University (Ph.D.) He taught art and spiritual formation at Samford University in Birmingham, Alabama until 2004 when he turned full time to the making of his own art. He now lives in Birmingham with his wife, Deborah, who is a photographer, and their son, Zachary.
Craig's work so far has focused on the local wonders and ordinary miracles of natural form, still life, and landscape, especially as these appear in the area around Birmingham, and in the state of Alabama. His work also expresses an interest in the stewardship of these local gifts and resources. His works have been exhibited in the Montgomery Museum of Fine Art, The Wiregrass Museum of Art in Dothan, Alabama, and in numerous shows and exhibits.
Craig's work is represented in Birmingham by the Atchison Gallery (Mountain Brook), The Four Corners Gallery (Inverness), LittleHouse Galleries (Homewood), and by the galleries of the Birmingham Art Association throughout the city. Craig also offers workshops in the practices of art and Christian spiritual formation.
