Artist Statement:
Thru the process of flameworking glass I aim to create high quality glass artwork with a concentration on shape, color scheme and form. Utilizing my scientific glassblowing background, I look to bridge the gap between traditional glass techniques and science, combining processes and resources to think outside the box and present unique, handmade glasswork to the public. I take great pride in the craftsmanship and quality of everything I make and hope that this is reflected within my body of work....

| Your Personal Biography |
Garrett Keisling began working with hot glass after graduating from high school in his hometown in Central Pennsylvania. During a short Furnace glass course during college he discovered glass beadmaking using a torch and was soon creating small glass beads and vessels to refine his skills and make money while attending school.
After several years studying technical glass and graduating from Salem Community College in New Jersey with a degree in scientific glassblowing, Garrett entered the technical glass industry making hand-blown laboratory equipment for research and development at chemical and medical companies worldwide. Several years later, still working with scientific glassware, Garrett found himself burnt out and uninspired with glassblowing, while his desire to be creative was growing stronger; leaving an intense void that creating laboratory glass could not fill. He saved up some money and left the stability and comfort of the technical glass field and immersed himself fully into the world of working with glass as an art form.
Garrett has spent countless hours practicing and studying different theories and techniques for sculpting and applying clear and colored glasses of all types. Through attending intense workshops around the country with Master Glassblowers such as Emilio Santini and Robert Mickelson, he has refined the skills needed to create a voice of his own in flameworked glass.
As his body of work evolves, Garrett has found a strong respect and interest in traditional glass history, designs and technique. He looks to combine classical elements with his technical background to create original, colorful, one of a kind flameworked glass with a touch of history and old world style.
Garrett currently lives and works at his studio, Left Coast Glassworks, located near Nevada City, CA in the beautiful Sierra Nevada foothills of northern California with his family, drawing constant inspiration from his community and surroundings.
