Artist Statement:
The impetus for many of my
creations derives directly
from beliefs gained through
the academic process. Since I
have been enlightened through
my life as a student, so has
my art. I have become more
responsible for my fellow
planet mates and I feel that
my voice is an essential
additive to our contemporary
culture for many reasons. As a
female that has, in some
instances, been marginalized
due to my larger figure, I
feel that my role in the art
world as an activist is
comforting to individuals who
would like agency or authority
restored to them over their
own lives. As an artist with
interests vested in mass media
and the subversion thereof in
our everyday lives, my work at
times is a commentary on the
pursuit of real extent that
advertisements persuade the
average consumer’s decision
making and thought processes.
In conclusion, my work
reflects the ability for any
person to be assertive and to
empower themselves as
individuals responsible for
their own lives....
