Artist Statement:

Artist George Scott
A New Voice from the ‘Greatest
Generation’

George Scott is a prominent
Connecticut artist and an
active member of the
Salmagundi Club of New York
City.

A native New Yorker, he still
feels a deep attachment to
that city and its way of
looking at life. For it was
the brilliance and brutality
of New York in the 1930’s that
shaped the man and the artist.
New York was teeming with

and Bronx neighborhoods,
emerged people like June
Allyson, Tony Bennett, Tony
Curtis, Regina Resnick, Gary
Marshall, Hank Greenberg, and
scores of others.

In 1942, George Scott was
awarded the prestigious New
York City Augustus
Saint-Gaudens medal for
Excellence in Art and, in the
same year, won acceptance to
Cooper Union Institute where
he was to study under such
luminaries as Max Weber , John
Godanz, Max Wilkes, Rafael
Soyer and Max Berndt. He
remembers Max Wilkes, in
particular, as taking a strong
interest in his work and
encouraging him to pursue a
career in fine art.

Scott interrupted his
studies...
