Artist Statement:
It is the beauty of Asian women that has inspired the pictures by this artist. The Asian experience for Georgie has given her a greater awareness of how beauty is perceived by others. Asians have frequently told Georgie that she is “beautiful”, which can be directly translated to mean “different”, a label that Georgie will, inevitably, always wear in Asia. Living in a society where appearance can openly be praised and criticized, it may even be seen as a symbol of wealth and lifestyle, it is impossible not to be conscious of how others look and how oneself is seen. For someone whose looks are so apparently not Asian, it can, at times, feel uncomfortable to be stared at and pointed out. But, just as Georgie can mesmerize, the beauty of Asian women has cast its spell over her.
Georgie has chosen to put onto paper the exotic beauty that the women she has drawn have failed to embrace. Each piece in the exhibition expresses an emotion from a moment in time. The simple images capture the elegance of the women and show the sensual and erotic side of the Asian female.
