Artist Statement:
STATEMENT

I have been working on my
radical approach to art since
the Seventies. I am
interested in developing a
formalised meditative
technique where the role of
the artist is merely as an
experimental vehicle. I
formed a number of pioneering
art organisations in the
Eighties and Nineties although
during most of my career I
have preferred to work in
isolation.

MEDITATIVE PROCESS ART:
A pictorial style which merges
painting with mathematics,
musical forms or concepts
borrowed from other time based
media to create sequential and
developmental formats. Images
are elaborated (or processed)
across the picture plane to
produce complex interacting
webs or mats. I have recently
began a long series of smaller
works which simplify and
reduce in scale this
procedure.

MEDITATIVE LANDSCAPES:
A reinvention of The English
Landscape Tradition using
formalised structures and
multiple series of condensed
images to present a many
layered and multifaceted
portrayal of the natural
world.

PROCESS ART PORTRAITS:
My attempt to create a new
portrait painting tradition.
Aspects of the sitters’
character are presented in the
form of words, numbers and
various kinds of symbol which
are then examined and
extended within carefully
defined structures.
