Artist Statement:
I use a traditional approach to creating works of art, in charcoal, oil, and true fresco. Portraits and landscapes form the bulk of my work. For me, each painting becomes an investigation into the nature of reality, and the way we as human beings, individually as well as collectively, perceive that reality.
Serious art demands serious technique and an approach steeped in tradition. If you avoid the pitfalls of short-cut methods, you will reap the rewards of hardwork and patience. John Lennon once said, "the love you take is equal to the love you make." I find a similar truth about the creation of art, especially with the most demanding of all graphic arts - fresco. Buon fresco, or "true fresco", is well suited to meld with architecture to create visual statements that run the gamet from unrivaled boldness and vitality to the indescribably sublime. I find the exacting requirements and long hours of preparation of lime, sand, mortar, and pigment, as well as planning the scale of the work and the drawing, are in harmony with my nature as an artist.
