ARTIST, GERARD Di FALCO:
Artist's Statement:
I work in a variety of genres and disciplines which include:
1- PAINTING (acrylic on canvas, watercolor on paper, acrylic and oil on primed paper, gouache on paper; mixed media on canvas);
2- PRINTMAKING (mixed technique etching [intaglio, aquatint, mezzotint, drypoint, engraving), serigraphy, collagraphy, monoprinting, woodblock, linolium block, new technologies);
3- INSTALLATION (indoor environments/conceptual spaces; outdoor earthworks; mixed media);
4- MIXED-MEDIA ASSEMBLAGE (all media);
5- PHOTOGRAPHY (Black-and-white, silverprint, color, digital)
6- PAPER WORKS & FIBER ARTS (Hand-made papers, drawing in traditional and experimental techniques, bookarts); and,
7- SCULPTURE (wood, plaster casting, found objects altered, glass, clay, metal, stone, bone).
I also experiment with the mixing of traditional and new technologies, as well as the integration of text, poetry, performance, film/video, and public/conceptual art with the above genres.
Color (and challenging established theories of color-field); form; geometry; hard-edged line/design; optical illusion, and the balance and play of light and shadow are all equal and vital elements in and of my art. Areas of philosophical and thematic concerns in my work include: quantum physics; astronomy; the poetics of space; the collective consciousness; mysticism/spirituality; and, the recycling of ideas/myths/concepts.
I consider my work to be a form of prayer to the Great Substance of the All . . . the Unification of Matter. I believe that humanity is on a quest to uncover "The Totality of Knowledge". As an artist, I feel that I am connected to all other artists (actors, writers, composers, dancers, film makers, poets, potters, conceptual philosophers, et cetera. AS a multi-media visual artist and performer/poet, I am a story teller in the Realm of the Image; and, My works exist to take all willing viewers into their exact present moments of perfect observation . . . the moment when one "OBSERVES: him or her self through the eyes of the being they have evolved into......I am the one to show you your very own cathedral of sacred mountains . . . your hand-held mirror of immediate self-recognition.
Oh, you gentle and mad Sparks of a Trillion Dieties . . . you Flame of One Tongue . . . you who are learning how to speak and rest in Divinity's never-ending sound of exploding quiet . . . appreciate the fact that you can change the universe with thought, for you know more than you believe you do . . . and the time to dance has arrived with this sunrise; let the moonrise sign you songs of liberty! Observe yourself as The Great One Who Observes and Makes Magic Real.
