Artist Statement:
I face the canvas, sometimes boldly, sometimes with trepidation, then mark or dab a slab of colour which begins the dialogue between myself and the surface. Sometimes I feel like a safecracker, ear to the dial, listening closely to the tumbling of the locks which hopefully opens the treasure inside. Affected by botanicals, fabric patterns, machines, the weather, the music I listen to in the studio, I favor acrylics, oil sticks, encaustics, appreciating more and more the fluidity and opacity of these mediums...I do not believe I need to be one kind of artist or
another; nor resolve the tension between abstraction and figuration. I just paint, because there is no choice. ...
