Artist Statement for Vicky Hunt

Each Ginga Squid piece of art jewelry is original in design and handmade in New Zealand by the artist Vicky T. Hunt. Many pieces are one-of-a-kind.

Ginga Squid designs make bold and fabulous organic statements using fossils, sea urchin spines, silver, rare gemstones, shells and Fair Trade African clay 'Kazuri' beads with accents in Swarovski crystals, precious & semi-precious beads, recycled 'Coke' bottle glass, pearls, horn, coral, wood and bone.

To own a piece of Ginga Squid jewellery is to own an exclusive work of wearable art that is individually handcrafted, elegant, organic and unique. Each piece is an original concept designed by the artist herself.

Wherever possible, Vicky tries to buy organic, ethical, sustainable and Fair Trade sourced materials for her designs.

For example, she uses handmade Fair Trade 'Kazuri' beads from Kenya and beautiful handcrafted Karen Hill Tribes fine silver beads, which she buys Fair Trade from the villagers in Thailand.

Vicky also only sources her unique and rare gemstone cabochons and fossils from suppliers that guarantee they are not imported from exploited peoples in third world countries.

Commissions are welcome - if you have a particular colour or design in mind for your own piece of handmade art jewelry then please contact me to discuss.
