Artist Statement:
Geology my original
profession, is a marriage of
art and science. Its practice
requires the conceptualisation
of the structure of the Earth
in time and space from
realistic through
impressionistic to schematic
images. Consequently, I have a
natural affinity with the
properties of rocks and their
three dimensional structure. I
apply this to my stone
sculptures in the local
globigerina limestone of
Malta.
As yet, I am at an
experimental stage, exploring
various expressions of
structure and form. Hitherto,
my works were all in
limestone, I am also
experimenting with clay
sculpture.
I took up rock sculpture
following a course in stone
carving at the School of
Art-Malta in Valletta.
Influences include nature,
prehistoric forms, and the
works of Barbara Hepworth,
Henry Moore and Isamu
Noguchi....
