Artist Statement:
Educated as a sociologist, trained as a concert violinist, always immersed in photography as a fundamental life force. . .and finally that life force emerges. The camera provides Glenda Kapsalis with an instrument for expressing the rhythm and essence of place and person. Moving documentary portraits leave the viewer with a vivid presence. Her black and white photography emits a strong sense of composition and mood. The color work captures the chromatic pallette and visual patterns unique to each environment. Rhythmic, strong, dramatic, moving - these words are most commonly used to describe her fine art and commercial work.
International museum exhibitions have included works from Greece, Mexico, South Africa, and the United States. An exploration of man’s loss of connection to the land has spawned a deep photographic involvement in the food security/sustainability movement with 10% of her profits donated to documenting these projects. Her jazz portraits have accompanied articles in international jazz publications and appeared on CD covers. ...
