Artist Statement:
Art is my second language. With it I am able to communicate my ideas, emotions, dreams, experiences and thoughts. Through art I am able to share the worlds that are in my heart, head and soul.
My background is in clothing and theatrical costume. I have been a costume designer for ten years. My acrylic paintings, fabric art and my greeting cards designs are influenced by Africa, the Caribbean, India, Latin America, Asia and America in the 1920's and 30's. A lot of my inspiration comes from the cloth and fabrics of West Africa, Jamaica, Bali, Indonesia and India. The colors and patterns are bold and uninhibited.
My personal goal is to through my art create positive images of people of color. I also want to show the strength, individuality, creativity, beauty and diversity of women in my art. ...
