Born in Montpellier in 1972, Jean Mehdi Grangeon grew up in the south of France. He discovered for the first time the painting of great artists such as Picasso, Matisse, Chagal and Leger in museums and private art foundations around Cannes and Antibes. After graduating from the University of Science in Marseille, he chose to devote all his time to study painting.

He quickly discovered the power of Renaissance art and began to develop his own style mixing the influences of painters like Piero della Francesca, Bellini and Ucello with modern art references like De Chirico, Millares or Muybridge.

’’Art Market taken into the frenzy of consumption had burned itself out in a brilliant burst of exuberance forgetting the main function of the artist in the society’’ he said.
He spent one year in Paris where he participated in the Salon d’Automne 2002 and became a finalist in the
youngest artist category. After this first success, he decided to pursue his career in New York City where he installed his new studio in the heart of the Williamsburg art community.

Since moving in New York in 2002, his work was shown is many different places both in Brooklyn and Manhattan. Three paintings from the fall painting set were exhibited at the Williamsburg Art & Historical Center annual show curated by Yuko Nii. Impressed by the turmoil of the town, he began to experiment with new techniques that evolved naturally from his own experience of art.

He maintains that this new age deserves a brand-new painting and leads us to ’’start again from zero’’ as Le Corbusier said. Though his latest works including fall Paintings (2003), Wrestling (2004) or Manhattan Cross Section (2005) Sets, the artist invites us to reconsider main messages from Painting as an instrument of evolution and human development.

He recently received an Extraordinary Ability Worker Visa from the United States Immigration Services. His work has been represented since February 2005 by the internationally renowned Opera Gallery located in the heart of SOHO, a famous place for its artistic excitement and a long-ago center for the arts in the world.
