BIO
TONI DRANES HOOPER
Toni Dranes Hooper grew up in a Greek family, surrounded by images of the Parthenon, the works of Praxilities and other icons of Greece’s Golden Age. An Abstract Expressionist, Hooper’s award-winning works reflects influence by Wassily Kandinsky, Jackson Pollock, her Greek heritage, and a personal interest in Egyptian art and culture.
Hooper believes that every stroke of paint is transference of energy. The point becomes the line; the line becomes the form. It is an emotion beginning deeper than the soul and extending beyond the cosmos. Observers see and feel the painting touching something unique inside. One person sees a bird, another a snake; all that matters is that a personal connection is made and a spark ignited. Hooper believes, “ Painting is matter; matter is energy; energy is life.”
Hooper works with children in the Nashville community projects such as Frist Center for the Visual Arts Outreach Program and served as art coordinator for HOPE VI Historic Preston Taylor Homes Community Art Project.
She is currently preparing for the Florence Biennale, an international juried show in Florence, Italy in December of 2007. Her works can be viewed at HA Gallery in Nashville, TN.
A native of Nashville, Tennessee, US, Hooper holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Studio Art.
