Artist Statement:
The presence of symbols and characters are projected from the underlying surface of the often muddied image. The image is the recording of a playful, emotional, and rhythmic interaction. These drawings are made as an open visual journal into the inner thoughts of my reality.
The inspiration to create is derived from both the many people and many places I experience. I approach drawing with a sense of uncertainty and blankness. Not until the larger shapes are forced down does the rest of the process start to unfold itself. It begins to build and take on meaning as the drawings start to overlap each other, exposing myself to the past of memory and to the reality of the present.
The symbols I repeat in my drawings reference experiences. These memories are often of nature, family, and places I have lived.
The head is my factory of thought, emotion, and its notion of reasoning. Drawing or molding quick abstractions of a head in a multiple ways allows me to record inner turmoil or euphoric pleasure. The notion of creating them in multiples allows for a more comprehensive pattern and progression for the work. It is the reflection of my inner-workings.
