Artist Statement:
Swedish artist Gunborg
Bäckström, 84, has been
painting for as long as she
can remember and the brush has
always been a faithful
companion. She often gathers
inspiration from nature and
the travels she's been on in
her life. One big source of
inspiration has been
Fuerteventura, one of the
Canary islands, where she
spent many years in her house
in a small Spanish village. On
Fuerteventura she got inspired
by the ocean and the beautiful
cobbled beaches and many of
her paintings clearly reflect
this...paintings with dramatic
sunsets and saltwater waves
caressing the lava stone
beaches. Another obvious
source of inspiration is the
place where she was born, the
Stockholm archipelago, but
also a place called Bergslagen
in the north of Sweden where
she during many years had a
summer house.
Gunborg has travelled from the
south of Sweden to the
mountains in the north in
search of inspiration and the
perfect scenery. The unique
Swedish nature is captured on
canvas with the utmost love,
creativity and talent....
