Artist Statement for Linda Joyce Ott

The Provocative Art of Linda Joyce Ott
Linda Joyce Ott is a Canadian born artist who lives in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Her provocative art includes paintings, photographs, Polaroid image transfers, collages, shadow boxes and assemblages.
Linda makes expressive, abstract and conceptual art that provokes and often disturbs the viewer. She is intrigued by the dichotomy between permanence and transience, by ebb and flow, and by themes of memory, loss, and man’s failed interactions with humanity and with natural forces. The provocative and poetic titles of the works reflect Linda's background as a writer and communicator.
By integrating the diverse streams of her sensibility, Linda creates art that glows with life and mystery while commenting on the tensions, disturbances and transcendence of the swirling forces that inform her perception of both internal and external realities.
Linda's first solo painting exhibition "The Earth Is Full of Anger" took place in September 2006 at Visual Arts Ontario. It coincided with the fifth anniversary of 9/11.
Current themes that she is working on include: "Crimes Against Nature", "Mystical Promises", and "Personal Totems"
