Artist Statement:
I started to study painting only three years ago, but I always made drawings and, when I started to work with Journalism, even tried to became an illustrator, without success. At the time, I was very shy and did not believe that I would have a future with this, specially living in a small town. I like to do figurative paintings (I also made a couple of abstractions), inspired in things I see everyday or in my hobbies and memories from my teenage years – newspaper photos, comics, musicians… Recently, I created a small series inspired in guitar players (my heroes when I was a kid) and another inspired on crime scenes. There is an opportunity to change the person depicted, to emphasize some aspects of his or her appearence, or just to suggest some others. That gives it a kind of unique personality that you do not get in photography, for example.
