Artist Statement:
Bart Habermiller’s work falls
into the tradition of collage
constructions. A conceptual
sculptor with a vision culled
from the back lanes of cities
and flea markets. Habermiller
creates works commenting on
architecture, community, and
the meaning we infuse in the
objects around us. The
trademark of Habermiller’s
work is his wit and
irreverence – his work is a
playful look at what drives
all of us in a consumer-based
culture. Habermiller sees the
beauty in the ordinary and
brings groups of objects
together to create a better
understanding of who we are.

Habermiller received his
B.F.A. in 1987 from the
Alberta Collage of Art and won
a Full Merit Scholarship to
attend The Art Institute of
Chicago. Upon completion of
his M.F.A. in 1990 he returned
to Calgary, Alberta where he
continues to reside and
contribute to a thriving arts
community.
