Artist Statement for Hamed Tavana

Hamed Tavana, born at 1967 in Iran graduated from university of Art, Tehran, in 1991 as a painter.

His thesis was titled "The Functions of Painting in Schizophrenic Patients". Since then he has focused his studies on psychological aspects of figurative painting, especially nudes in metamorphosed and malformed gestures, in some symbolic abstract backgrounds.

In an attempt to describe his paintings in words, he says:

Substance, body, loss of life, to die, decomposition, demolition, the passing of time, to disappear, to lose, oblivion, to forget -

Nonexistence, distress, vulnerability, weakness, to be surrounded, the instinct of survival, sexuality, mental anguish -

To be sacrificed, to victimize, to lacerate, to be ripped, illusion, terror -

Fear of demolition, fear of the continuity of a process that cannot be stopped, malady, disfigurement, the point of no return -

Forfeiture, obscurity, the state of not to be, to observe, weakness, exhaustion, nostalgia, loneliness -

Maybe these words represent (to some extent) my works (paintings). Maybe.
