I am thankful to have grown up on a farm in south-central Mississippi. Many of my paintings reflect back on the wonderful memories I have of my childhood. I came from a family of seven children. My father grew cotton for a living, made sugar cane syrup for the public, and grew corn and vegetables for our family. One of my fondest memories is running to the cane mill after school in the late fall to watch my daddy make syrup. I can still smell the cane juice as it was slowly cooked into syrup. I remember the precision my daddy had when it came to this task. He would work until after sunset many days. I can also remember the smell of picked cotton loaded in the cotton house waiting to be taken to the gin. If we were
lucky enough not to get caught, we would play in the freshly picked cotton. Many of these memories I transfer to canvas. I have been painting off and on since 1970, but only recently have I been able to devote my time to quilting and painting. My favorite medium is water color, however, I do enjoy oils.
