Artist Statement:
Learning to draw or paint is, I believe, as easy or difficult as learning to play the piano, dance a ballet or write prose. They are learned skills that require patience and practice, trial and error. It may be true that there is only one Mozart or Michealangelo, but anyone can learn to play Mozart or paint a beautiful painting. I don't think there is any room for exclusion in art. Art should be created and experienced by anyone.
Many of my paintings depict simple subjects, and in my most recent work even some of the back grounds are disappearing. I feel the direction that I am going is toward even simpler subjects and cleaner images, but I'm never totally sure what direction I am going because the fun of creating art is exploring the endless possibilities....
