Artist Statement for Brett Hart

|
As long as I can remember I have been intrigued by art. My passion for art began as a child, trying to paint along with Bob Ross of “Joy of Painting”; only I would attempt it in watercolor. I never really realized just how much I enjoyed it until I was about 12. At that point art became an obsession. I wanted to learn how to use as many forms of media as possible. Those media I have learned to love include graphite, charcoal, conte’, pastels, acrylic paint, oil paint, watercolor, ceramics, photography, pumpkin carving, graphic design, printmaking, and even a little sculpture. Following the same path as the media I choose to use, my subject matter for each piece tends to vary as well. I do spend a good share of my time with portraits and landscapes though. With the support of my family and friends, I pursued and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in both Art and Design and Advertising from Iowa State University in 2001. The ever-changing beauty of nature fascinates me (especially the way light plays with its shapes and colors). My current job with Wild Mountain/Taylors Falls Recreation has given me the opportunity to view the natural beauty of this area throughout the changing season. This gives me increasing respect and awe of Mother Nature and her power and elegance.
