Artist Statement:
From the outset of my formal art education, in the 1950's, (yup, I've been around a long time!) I have embraced fully the notion that art is the product of the culture of the day. That which is a clone of yesterday's art is not art at all. Thus I have come up with a statement for my art studio which is gelled into this statement:
"No one else can but you can make your marks.
Listen to your bones. Speak with your spirit.
Edit with your head. Live with your heart."
My art is spontaneous--springing from NOW, and delighting in the uniqueness of the moment in time. I love to paint "alla prima" -- all in one session-- and many will think my art is unfinished who are looking for polish and slickness.
I paint for painting, not for marketing and not for approval, although sales and applause are always very gratifying and fuel the muse enormously.
Many are making art without even being aware that that is what is happening. Watch a child play--or a workman sing. It is all art. Long live the output of humans in their worlds, whether permanent or impermanent. ...
