Artist Statement:
I crochet to discuss ideas of
consumerism, mass media,
identity, and conformity.
Citing the properties and
traditional uses of fiber, I
manifest crocheted metaphors.
The manner in which I create
my work focuses on the
processes, inherent meanings,
and histories of the materials
I choose. As with the history
of fiber-based art, my work
tries to redefine certain
power structures and social
expectations. I have a
long-held interest in media
and information, leading me to
use crochet both as an
alternative and critique for
contemporary media culture.
