Artist Statement:
I moved to the United States as a teenager, from a small town in Northern France, Compiegne. French society at the time, felt very restrictive to me because there always seemed to be a clear path laid out for my future, from which it was frowned upon to deviate.
In the U.S., the simple fact that I could go to college, and not only was not required to declare a major until junior year, but could change my mind multiple times in between was an incredible burst of freedom. In the 22 years I have lived here, I have delivered human livers and blood, met Steve Martin in my incarnation as a props master, sat in a cubicle for 12 hour days (pizza included) and moved to New York city to become an artist.
Simultaneously, I started to realize that all I love and hold dear can die or disappear in an instant.
My work is a celebration of my freedom mixed with the simple and horrifying fact that life is fragile and transient. I choose human figures in simple, perhaps mundane gestures typical of a day in the life of a 21st century American: sleeping on public transportation, ...
