Artist Statement for Ijber Smits

In a bay i found shells damaged against the rocks, the sand and the stream. The exogene skeleton, the empty house that stays behind. The emptyness is shown, smooth as glass. The time had gone and nothing left except the hollows and spirals. And than i thougt of eternity , of that what disapears in the time and excists in the time and of that that will be new and has to go its own time.
I choosed for painting (oil) and etching the shells for giving form to my astonishment.
