Artist Statement for John Thompson
Philosophy: I find myself most comfortable on back roads seeking scenes that are intriguing yet peaceful. All the elements fall into place to capture that one special moment that we, as artists, can claim as ours.
Style: Landscape, Nature, Wildlife, Creative indoor and outdoor subjects.
Technique: I work with a 35mm Canon SLR and Digital (Nikon 885 Coolpix) cameras. I also carry several throw-away cameras as backups. Reproduction photos are printed on professional photographic paper and Giclee Prints are also offered.
Background: As a digital photographer, I seek to “capture the moment in time as it appears in its own natural colors.” As an artist in Pointillism and as a poet, my work has been published around the country. In 1987 I was named Personality of America for Outstanding Achievements in the Arts. In 1997, I received the Commemorative Medal of Honor in honor of Outstanding Achievements and Dedication to Personal & Professional Goals from by the American Biographical Institute.
Membership: North Hills Art Center Artist’s & Craftsmen’s Guild, The Executive Advisory Board of Researchers, the American Consumer Research Panel and currently accepted participation with the Pine Cone Research Consumer organization.
Vision: "Photography is the ability to utilize the practices of artistic achievement." From the freezing pines in the Allegheny Mountains of Northwestern Pennsylvania to the beauty of Delicate Petals in the summer garden, the camera becomes my inner eye allowing me to capture the unique, sometimes different, and the beauty in our world.
