Artist Statement:
For most of her artistic
career, Isolde Krams has been
working from a feminist

shifted to a concern for the
preservation of nature,
animals and the earth. Her
strong personal interest in
conservation and environmental
issues has resulted in the use
of environmentally sound

They vary from rubber to her
dog’s combed excess fur and
recycled shopping bags. In
Unfamiliar Turf, for instance,

elephant’s tusks.

Krams has devised a technique

expand the potential of the
three dimensional form.

At present, she is working on
a series of over life-sized
fish that have been taken out
of their natural environment
and are bound and gagged.
These fish are “out of water”,
symbolising man’s
misappropriation, pillaging
and even misunderstanding of
nature. One of these fish was
recently purchased by the
Oliewenhuis Art Museum and
another, Out of Water, by the
Absa Bank Gallery. In ...
