Artist Statement:
I began these painting as a meditation on my past relationships. My art is much like those past memories, which seem to decay slightly as the memories pass, highly romanticized and yet never as beautiful and true as when they first happened. Removing them from the canvas emphasizes this by removing them from the context of their original creation, and the decay, which occurs every time they are rehung, reinforces the concept of how memories and emotions change and diminish as time goes by.
The Images follow the train of reflection and thought, as the memories fade and the reflection of the memories become different through introspection. The images range from the realization that there are problems to the anger and of being out of control, demonstrating a release of the anger and the ability to move on. These themes are explored through each painting as they are viewed sequentially, as meditation on one theme leads, naturally to the next.
