Artist Statement:
I’m a digital artist born in Cairo, Egypt 1976 to a family of artists. I have a BFA as well as a MFA and I’m currently working on my PhD in Digital New Media and Fractals. My work is mostly abstract, I guess I’ve always liked how everyone can see something different in just one painting, I am sometimes amazed of how different people view a single painting of mine, it only shows that art is somewhat a cooperative experience, you do one thing and then you see another, completely different, through other people’s eyes....

| Your Personal Biography |
My name is Mohrah Hamed Sakr. I have a BA in Fine Arts from the faculty of Fine Arts Helwan University Cairo, Egypt. I come from a family of artists; my Father is a painter and a professor of painting at the same faculty. My Mother also graduated from the same faculty, interior design & decoration division. My younger sister is also a graduate from the same Faculty Painting division where she works now as a teacher’s assistant. I also have an uncle and an aunt that graduated from the faculty of Art Education. Therefore I had no other choice but to be an artist myself growing around all those artists in my family, and actually I do conceder it to be a privilege to be able to create, to be able to express myself and whatever goes into my mind or soul through my paintings.
I usually work fast; I mean my greatest peaces are always the ones that I don’t take time creating. I guess it’s because the idea or mood I want to express is so clear to me, and my feelings are so vivid, that I don’t really need time to put them all together in some tangible form, which is usually a painting.
I worked with almost all kinds of mediums such as oil, gouache, pastel, water color and I also did a lot of work, mostly fast sketches, using pencils and charcoal. The one thing I found out I liked so much about paining was the colors, and the way they leave a textured surface when used without diluting in thick, fast, and free strokes. Of the works of the famous paining masters I like the colored works of the expressionists, and the fauves such as Monet, Renoir, Van Gough, Gauguin, and Matisse. I also like the works of Picasso, Kandinsky, and Miro.
I first knew about the endless possibilities of the computer through my studies for a diploma in IT in the Information Technology Institute (ITI) in Cairo. In there I learned almost everything there is to know about computers. Some of the courses I took there dealt with computer operating systems, data structure, programming, and networking. My specialization was multimedia, a field I find really amazing.
Now I work as a graphic designer and a Multimedia Developer in the Ministry of Information in Egypt. In my work I design book covers, layout for printed materials like magazines or brochures, and I also design interfaces for Multimedia CDs. My work there provided me with a lot of experience and has definitely improved my skill and style.
Recently I had my Master Degree in Fine arts from the Faculty of Fine Arts Helwan University in Cairo. The Thesis was about “Digital Painting”. During my research I found out a lot about digital fine art history, famous artists, and all different ways of creating through the digital medium, which helped me a lot in my work. I am also proud to say that I was officially considered an Egyptian pioneer in this field and a copy of my thesis could be found in the famous library of Alexandria known as “Bibliotheca Alexandrina”. Now I am doing my PhD Reasearh which is about Fractal and New Media Arts, it is another step in my studies in digital art as I'm really interested in this field.
