Artist Statement for Ian Toeg
|
|
|
Ian Toeg lives and works in Boston, Massachusetts. He studied Architecture at the University of Virginia.
"The urban landscape is a constant source of inspiration for my work. The city is an ecosystem with its own geology, topography, climate, and species. In my work, I explore the spaces of the city and their habitation by light and individuals through deep architectural perspective and tense light and shadow. I explore the city as a series of layered surfaces that frame, obscure, and reveal one another. Graffiti is a major source of inspiration as it shatters the two-dimensional surfaces of the city, plunging beneath and exploding from them to create its own space and light."
