Artist Statement:
I don't think my art or any art can be confined to verbal interpretation. I think that all mankind has an impulse to handle and make material objects that in turn bring pleasure. I am fortunate enough to be able to carry through this thought. My art is my touchstone; it centers me. There's a certain sanity and satisfaction in my fine craft. I get much pleasure in handling the material I weave with; exploring its visual and tactile beauty. When I weave, the repetitive motion itself generates a meditative state that allows me to explore my fiber art at a deeper level. It's very cathartic and re-nourishing and leaves me with a sense of well being. There is inherent pleasure in making, a "joie de faire". The process of making my art is more vital to me then the subsequent work and perhaps that explains the wide variety in my body of work. I take great satisfaction in knowing that each piece will be "true" in its own nature. Overall, my baskets are much like my friends, they speak at many levels, have a multitude of interests and are quite entertaining....
