Artist Statement:
I define myself as a figurative draftsman and painter. In my studio, my aim is to create visually engaging images in which human figures exhibit a quiet intensity while their surroundings support the color and composition of the piece. I understand I am balancing on the edge between abstraction and realism. Elements from reality are used to express emotion, message, and character. Color, blocking, and line remove it from the representation of reality. I am after a mood, a single statement, a color composition, and not photographic reproduction and hyperrealism. It is all in an effort to explore an unconventional approach toward emotional and psychological investigation, and to reach a balance between two perceptions. The paintings often lead to an imagined narrative and all its implications as a conceptual representation of the subject's thoughts. http://jadang.artistnation.com
