Artist Statement:
I often begin my works by filling the empty canvas with randomly painted areas and strokes. From this, compositions reveal themselves by visually, and emotionally, linking those shapes and strokes. I'm further inspired by the serendipitous result of this chance-induced experience. From that moment forward, I work and rework the resulting image until is resolves itself as a tactile and, often, complex series of human, or humanized, forms and inferences. This amalgam of formal and informal technique, self-doubt and correction, brushstroke and thumb-smear is a testament to my love of simple, expressive form.
