Artist Statement for Janusz Migasiuk

Subject of my creation is landscape and still life.
My artwork reflects nature capturing the impressionistic view of the world.
My vision of colors and tones is composed based on scrupulous observation of the surroundings.
My paintings include warm tones of colors and balanced composition.
My paintings were exhibited in many galleries in Poland. My artwork enriches many interiors in US and Europe.
1. Birth of Passion
Even as a small child I felt an overwhelming desire to draw and paint everything that surrounded and fascinated me (and I was captivated by almost everything around me); it might have been motifs from the fairytales I read, or the ships I saw on my trip to the sea. I remember being driven by the need to recreate all of these “attractions” on paper.I created my first oil on canvas at the age of 11.
It was very dark, because nobody told me to use white paint to lighten it… There was probably more paint on the furniture, carpet and my clothes than on the painting itself… But it was the unlimited color possibilities of oil paints that fascinated me the most…
2. Years of Exploration
While going to grade school, I also attended a music academy in Rzeszow and learned how to play an accordion. When everyone thought I would pursue art in my further studies, I decided to choose a technical school specializing in electronics. It was there where I obtained all my knowledge of electronic technology, but also a place where I constantly drew landscapes and other motifs all over my notebooks. To “kill three birds with one stone”, I decided to play volleyball at the local league (Polytechnic in Rzeszow). During that time, I also started to play the base guitar. After graduating from the technical school, I decided to continue my studies at the Pedagogical College in Rzeszow (Wyzsza Szkola Pedagogiczna) with a concentration on technical education.
3. Krakow
Because of my experiences with music and art, I wasn’t able to forget them or give them up. After a year of studying in Rzeszow, I decided to move to one of the most magical cities in the world – Krakow.
I transferred to the Institute of Art (near Pedagogical Academy) in Krakow where I learned different techniques of painting, drawing, sculpture, photography, and digital/computer art.
At the same time, I started to play the base with the local cabaret group “Zielone Szkielko” (“Green Glass”) and other young artists in the Krakow music scene.
Because of numerous performances and concert, I was able to travel around Poland and see some of the most beautiful places my Homeland had to offer. Winning one of the most prestigious music festivals in Opole in 1997, in the category “Debut of the Year”, was a wonderful conclusion of all of my music endeavors during that time.
While studying in Krakow, touring, and painting, I was also engaged in numerous graphic design projects. Some my major undertakings were: designing posters for the largest open-air festival in Krakow – “Wianki”, making technical plans for the concert of the “New York Philharmonic”, as well as designing book covers, folders, and other promotional items.
4. Painting
I strive to capture my love for nature in all of my landscapes, where the appropriate mood and atmosphere create the astonishing beauty of the surroundings. I guess I can say that I paint because of my longing to be around nature…
Still life paintings have always fascinated me with their energy… I don’t know who decided to call them “still…” There is always so much that could be captured, so much interactivity between the individual elements…
Last, but not least – portraits. The most important thing in a portrait is to capture it in such a way, that it truly is a portrait…I’ve tried different paths, from active abstractions to calm “Temptation”… In my opinion, the most important thing in a portrait is capturing the character of the subject.
5. Interior painting
Using my experience in oil painting on canvas, I also create interior painting designs crafting various compositions on walls and ceilings (from Egyptian or Roman motifs, through baroque decorations, to cartoon characters). Often, I like to include elements which create an illusion of three-dimensional space. All of my interior art pieces create unique settings as well as enhance and decorate spaces they’re in.
6. Web design
Web design provides an opportunity for me to combine my passions for art and music. Using the newest technology, I create websites that are always carefully designed to provide the most appropriate visual effects, are enhanced by interesting animations and sounds, which (according to my clients) make them very attractive.
Thank you for viewing my work.
Sincerely,
Janusz Migasiuk
