Artist Statement for Jacqueline Chachitz

Check out my Blog: www.jaxbydesign.artblog.com

I am currently painting abstract art. My interests lie in manipulating the canvas, keeping away from concepts, objects, figures, and when I feel a form creeps in I try to use the image to give the painting some direction and then step back and mentally remove myself from the constraints of these forms. Almost like a ghost appearing and then disappearing.

I feel the need to concentrate on creating a painting for paintings sake. Paint on canvas – colors, shapes, lines, patterns, images – all juxtaposed with a random purpose.

I am focusing on more aggressive paint strokes, juxtaposed against delicate organic forms. Fresh paint on canvas, the first strokes give my paintings an exciting raw edge. Opposites, I am deliberately trying to do the opposite of what I was taught as a painter, what I have learned as acceptable, to paint like a child - what we as adults just naturally get further away from. Sometimes, my thoughts are to paint, "ugly", mix pigments, paint wet on wet, paint dry, put direction in corners going away from the canvas, create imbalance. And I find that within these spontaneous parameters, their is a natural balance that occurs.

My professional goals are to exhibit and sell my work. I am dedicating myself to painting and look forward to accomplishing all the goals for a successful career.
